FAQ

Questions learners ask us

How does the K53 learners test work?

The official test has 64 multiple-choice questions split into three sections: 8 on vehicle controls, 28 on road signs and 28 on the rules of the road. You must pass every section on its own — a strong score in one section cannot rescue a weak one.

What is the pass mark for each section?

You need at least 6 out of 8 for vehicle controls, 23 out of 28 for road signs and 22 out of 28 for the rules of the road. Our 64-question mock exam mirrors this structure so you can measure yourself against the real pass marks.

Is K53LearnersTests.co.za really free?

Yes — every practice question, revision sheet, study note and downloadable manual on this site is free. No account, no trial, no payment wall before the answers.

How do I book my learners test?

Book at your nearest Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC), or online through the NaTIS website in provinces that support online booking. You choose a test date when you book, and you pay the booking fee at the centre.

What must I bring on test day?

Bring your South African ID (or valid passport with proof of residence status), two identical black-and-white ID photos, the test fee, and proof of residential address. Requirements can differ slightly between provinces, so confirm with your DLTC when you book.

What happens at the eye test?

Before the written test the centre checks your eyesight — visual acuity and field of vision. If you normally wear glasses or contact lenses, wear them; the restriction is simply noted on your licence.

How long is a learners licence valid?

A learners licence is valid for 24 months. You must pass the K53 driving test and get your drivers licence before it expires, otherwise you write the learners test again.

What is the best way to prepare?

Read the study notes first, then drill each section separately with instant feedback, and finish by passing the full mock exam a few times in a row. Most people are exam-ready within one to two weeks of steady practice.
